[HYBRID] "Robber Barons in the Gilded Age" with Toni McKeen In-Person
This lecture will explore the famous "Robber Barons" focusing on Jay Gould, probably one of the most influential yet controversial figures in American business history. During his relatively short lifetime, he was a railroad tycoon, financier, and speculator. He built one of the greatest fortunes of the Gilded Age and even outsmarted Cornelius Vanderbilt on several occasions. But his financial ingenuity and creative rule-flouting also made him one of the most reviled figures in the country by the end of his life. He also lived locally in Westchester County.
